Shonishin: Paediatric Needle-Free Acupuncture
Shonishin, meaning sho “little,” ni “children,” and shin “needle” refers to a variety of techniques that gently stimulate the Meridians and/or Acupuncture points, without needing to insert needles!
Different tools are used to achieve different therapeutic effects, none of which cause any pain or distress to a child. It takes the fear and the perception of pain out of Acupuncture. As children are yang in nature, they are quick to get sick and quick to recover. Shonishin utilizes this to great effect, encouraging the body’s innate healing processes by removing any blockages and allowing the body’s energy (qi) to do what it does best – restore balance. This treatment approach can provide a viable alternative to pharmaceuticals and can be effective in a variety of conditions.
Children as young as one month old have been effectively treated.
