Lymphatic Drainage Massage

Lymphatic drainage is a gentle, rhythmical massage treatment performed by a specially trained massage therapist. Our lymph fluid is transported through the lymphatic vessels via our skeletal muscle movements contracting and deep correct breathing, unlike our blood which is pumped around the circulatory system via our heart.

A lymphatic drainage massage helps to stimulate the circulation of lymph fluid around the body, reducing swelling and fluid retention through the limbs. This massage helps to rapidly speed up the removal of wastes and toxin, aids in the prevention of swelling after injury or surgery, is often used for people going through chemo as it can help them build their immune system and is also thought to provide a major boost to your immune system.

*Please note if you feel like you are getting sick (cold, flu, unwell at all) then treatment is contraindicated as it can spread an infection and keep you sicker for longer. If you have or have an cancer, please organise a doctor’s clearance certificate prior to your initial appointment.

What is your Lymphatic system?

    ..

Your lymphatic system’s major roles is to collect excess fluid from the tissues, purify it and return it to the blood stream. This role is important because many substances are continuously leaking out of the blood capillaries into the surrounding tissues. When your lymphatic system fails to gather these excess fluids, they can accumulate ultimately cause swelling or fluid retention (most commonly seen in the limbs). An efficient lymphatic system helps to defend your body against germs such as bacteria, viruses & fungi that may cause illness.

The lymphatic system drains the fluid into specific regions of your body such as your armpits and groin where there is the largest concentration of lymph nodes. The lymph nodes contain lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell) & some of these lymphocytes contain antibodies that fight off germs & stops infection from spreading throughout the body. The good news is that lymphatic massage rapidly speeds up your lymphatic system and its capacity to fight disease and viruses, remove toxins and waste products, reduce swelling, filter lymph fluid and your blood, leading to your better health.
